Vaholms Brohus

Vaholms Brohus and the Tidan river

Vaholms Brohus sits along the Tidan river in the quiet valley of Tidansdalen — a landscape shaped over centuries by water, farming, and the slow rhythms of Swedish countryside life. The Tidan runs from the highlands of Västergötland down toward Vänern, and the land along its banks carries the traces of every generation that has settled here.

This experience was created as part of Att Bryta Ljud 2025, an event by K.Skaraborg and Platåbergens UNESCO Global Geopark that brought sound art and cultural experiences out of galleries and into the real landscape of Skaraborg. The audio content was recorded and narrated on location by Martin Toresson, historian and former director of Tibro Museum.

The river speaks in layers

As you walk the paths around Vaholms Brohus, your phone follows your movement through GPS. Approaching a marked point triggers ambient river sounds — wind, water, the presence of the place. Step into the centre of a zone and Martin's voice begins: stories of the people, the crafts, and the history embedded in this stretch of the Tidan valley.

This is a gentle, unhurried walk. The experience rewards attention — the sounds are as much about the landscape itself as about the history it holds. Allow around 30–45 minutes.
